FAQs

Consults & Policies

Have a question about your upcoming consultation, our IBCLCs, or our rescheduling/cancellation policies? Here’s our most asked questions.

  • Literally anything related to how you feed your baby! Breastfeeding pain, pumping supply, pumping comfort and efficiency (and flange size!), tongue tie related questions, colic/fussy baby issues, bottle or breast refusal, solids introduction and weaning are things we might cover. The visit is tailored to your specific situation — there is no “one size fits all” here! You will come away with a specific care plan to work to.

  • If possible, we will do a weighted feeding where we weigh baby before and after a feeding to see about how much they were able to transfer at the breast. We don’t want a very hungry baby — that’s no fun for anyone! If your baby can’t wait, we suggest giving a “snack” at the breast or with the bottle before your IBCLC arrives or before you arrive at our clinic. A weighted feeding is only one piece of the puzzle, and won’t throw off our assessment and care if we can’t get it!

  • Yes! Every provider has their specialty. Our team of IBCLCs are specifically trained to work with families struggling with breast and bottle feeding, and with tongue tie issues. We will work on oral function exercises for baby pre and post tongue tie release (if indicated), make recommendations to manage milk supply, keep an eye on weight gain for baby and assure that feedings at bottle and breast are going well.

  • There is no extra fee for babies under 2 weeks of age. After 2 weeks, there is a $20 travel fee for ALL in-home visits. Additional fees may apply if you’re located outside of your provider’s service area.

  • Cancellation with less than 48 hours notice will incur a $100 charge and 25% of the travel fee (if applicable). If client is a no-show, 100% of the travel fee will be charged for a home visit. If an in-person visit is cancelled with less than 48 hours of notice due to contagious illness or other unexpected event, then there is no cancellation charge for rescheduling to telehealth (virtual) at the same appointment date and time. Additionally, if the in-person visit is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice and is rescheduled within 5 business days in-person, the cancellation fee will be waived. The cancellation fee is not reimbursable by insurance.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you can do so online please call or text your IBCLC at 816-281-7558.

FAQS

All Things Insurance

Have a question about which insurance companies we accept, coverage, financial assistance forms, or travel fees? Here’s our most asked questions.

  • We are in-network with MOST major insurance companies including Aetna, Anthem, BCBS, Cigna and UHC/UMR. Please verify your insurance coverage before scheduling an appointment.

  • Some plans allow for 100% coverage. However, individual plans may require some cost sharing. We recommend that you call your insurance to verify prior to your visit.

  • Please contact us at hello@nurturelactationkc.com to check your benefits! Our benefits team is prompt in answering any of our benefits-related questions. We will get back to you within 24 business hours, but typically same day.

  • As a small business, collecting a card is important to protect us in the event of a late cancellation. This protects and respects the time and energy our IBCLCs put in to prepare for and get to your appointment.
